Who Are We?

Recently, a group of concerned citizens formed a committee with a common goal of building a new animal shelter for Carter County. The Shelter is in horrible condition. Many people have offered their time, services, and money to help reach our goal but we still have a ways to go.

Commission approves conceptual plans for animal shelter

 The Elizabethton Regional Planning Commission Tuesday evening unanimously approved the conceptual site plans for a new Elizabethton-Carter County Animal Shelter, which may provide a boost in fundraising efforts for the facility.

Upcoming Events

The Elizabethton Elks Lodge is co-sponsering this years annual Parrots and Tails II on the River for the Elizabethton / Carter County Animal Shelter Building Committee on August 28th fro 1-7 p.m. on the 4 acres behind the Lodge.  Tickets are $20 for a full day of live music with all proceeds going to the shelter.  There will be plenty of food, fun, venders, and things to do.  This is a ParrotHead event so expect cold LandShark Draft Beer, Blended Margarittas , home cooked Bar B Q and sweet tea and a huge good time. Dress festive, bring your pet and join the fun. Deluxe tickets are also available for an additional $10 that will include overnight camping, a guest membership to the Elks Lodge and a full breakfast and live music Sunday morning.

Slowly but surely we are moving forward. Preliminary sketches for the new shelter are complete and provide an encouraging look at where we're headed. Special thanks to Joey White and Reedy & Sykes for their continued help with this project.

How can you help?

An account has been set up with Carter County Bank (601 E. Elk Ave.) to receive donations. All donations are tax deductible and will be used solely for the building of
a new shelter. Checks can be made to the Elizabethton/Carter County Animal Shelter Building Fund.

Facts about the Animal Shelter

  • The shelter receives, on average, over 500 cats and dogs each month
  • The shelter is only 1,200 sq. ft
  • All dog kennels are outside with no protection from heat or cold.
